3 Horses 2 Locks
In the car today my mom decided to tell me the story of how three horses died. My mom said that before she knew my stepdad and was his groom, there was a groom that got fired. The groom was drinking after a polo game and when he loaded the horses into the trailer he forgot to lock the back latch keeping the doors closed. My mom then said that as he turned into the road my mom lives on now the back doors came open and three of the horses closest to the back ended up being dragged behind the trailer. I am sitting staring at her in disbelief when she proceeds to fuel all of my future nightmares. She said the horses were dragged along behind the trailer until all of their legs were reduced to "bloody stumps leaving a trail of blood all the way down the road", and the groom had no idea what was happening. At this point I am so horrified that I can't find words to express it. I keep thinking to myself, "horses scream, they must have been screaming the entire time and the groom heard nothing, omg!". What made the story even worse, if that is possible, is that my mom and I were currently pulling a horse trailer. I kept looking at the mirrors, convinced that it was happening again. When we were shutting the horses back into the trailer later that day and locking the back doors my mom said cheerfully, "That's why I got a trailer with two locks in the back!".
